Help Pave Path to Mars


To the general population, the year 1997 will be remembered for many events, but for engineers and scientists at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, it will be the year that catapulted them to the forefront of an electronic event that was unequaled in 20th century communications.

On July 4, when Pathfinder transmitted its first signals and images of the mysterious red planet, it took only 11 minutes to boldly go where no one had gone before.
